For various reasons many operators choose to buy low emissions gas turbine(s). These are also called DLE (Dry Low Emissions) or DLN (Dry Low NOx) gas turbine turbines. Following are the reasons given: • Low NOx emission requirement specified by the local authorities, • Lower overall emissions expectations by the local regulators. DLE / DLN gas turbine suppliers typically quote low NOx limit of 25 ppm or lower. Nitrous oxide are formed due to high temperature spots in the combustor. Low NOx emissions are achieved by ensuring that the gaseous fuel and air are properly mixed for uniform temperature in the combustion chamber thus prevent or reduce formation of various nitrous oxide1. India: Surprisingly, despite the installed coal fired power generation capacity share of 56.9% of the total generation capacity, it supplies 71.5% of India’s power demand; and it is primarily used to balance supply & demand. 2. Daily normal power demand variation is @15% or abour 20,000 MW-hr. (slide 3).• The world’s major green house gas emitters are: • Coal fired boilers in power generation • Road transport industry • Steel production • Sea transport • Air transport • Amongst these green house gas emitters, capturing carbon dioxide from the coal fired boilers is the most economical. Sulphur dioxide removal is integral part of carbon dioxide capture. In a properly designed plant 85 to 90% of carbon dioxide and 98 % of sulphur dioxide can be captured and removed. On equivalent heating value basis, Indian Grade 1 coal at Rs 9450/tonne (Feb 2022 price) is equal to US$5.76 per MMBTU, whereas the imported LNG is currently about US$25.00 per MMBTU, ex-tax. On average, in the last decade, the Indian coal cost has been about one fifth the price of natural gas. Capturing the carbon dioxide emissions profitably from the coal fired power plants would probably be the best way forward to reduce the impact of greenhouse gases on the world’s climate. In the uploaded blogs we share more information on how this carbon dioxide can be captured profitably and help India meet its commitment to reduce emissions of green house gases. Now and in future we will continue to share our knowledge and also the information from our associate Global Machinery Consultants Pty. Ltd.
